My Teaching Philosophy

Fostering Athletic Growth & Joy

Your Game Starts Here!

Whether you're learning the fundamentals, developing your athletic skills, or looking to become a more game-ready player, there’s always more to discover on court. Coaching available for juniors and adults in Toronto.

Physical Literacy

Movement, Play & Discovery

Good tennis is about more than perfect strokes

Technique matters, but playing the game also means reading the ball, moving with speed and agility, choosing the right shot, understanding the court, and managing emotions under pressure. From day one, players learn to use their skills in real game situations, developing the ability to not only hit the ball well, but understand and play the game.

Game-Ready Players

Positive experiences with sport can stay with you long after the lesson ends

Learning a new skill, overcoming a challenge, and seeing yourself improve can change the way you feel about sport. Each lesson creates opportunities to experience success, build confidence, and feel comfortable trying something new. The goal is not simply to learn how to play tennis, but to enjoy movement, feel capable in sport, and develop the motivation to stay active.

I combine my years of coaching experience with my background in Kinesiology to help children and adults develop physical literacy and Fundamental Movement Skills through tennis. Each lesson is designed to enhance coordination, build confidence, and establish a strong foundation for participation in sport and lifelong active living.

Movement, Play & Discovery

Build skills that go beyond the tennis court

Physical literacy includes the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge, and understanding needed to participate in physical activity throughout life. Through tennis, I help players develop coordination, balance, agility, body awareness, and confidence in their ability to move, creating skills that extend beyond the court.

Learn by moving, trying, and figuring things out

Active learning creates opportunities to experiment, make decisions, solve movement problems, and discover what works. I implement games, challenges, and purposeful activities to keep players engaged while allowing skills to develop through experience rather than relying solely on theory.

Meet Your Coach

I began my tennis journey playing on red clay in Colombia and have been coaching since 2011. I hold a Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of Toronto, and I am certified as a TPA Tennis Instructor and Wheelchair Tennis Instructor by Tennis Canada. Currently, I am pursuing my Club Pro 1 certification and have certification in Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C.

Over the years, I’ve coached everyone from 5-year-olds picking up a racquet for the first time to teenagers and adults (also picking up a racquet for the first time!) looking to sharpen their game. My experience spans private lessons, group clinics, camps, and junior programs in Toronto and Nosara.

My experience includes running my own tennis academy in Nosara, coaching with the University of Toronto Junior Blues, and working with programs and clubs including Philpott Children’s Tennis, East York Tennis Club, Winston Churchill Tennis Club, Kew Gardens Tennis Club, and The Boulevard Club. I now offer private and semi-private tennis coaching in Toronto, bringing together my years of on-court experience and Kinesiology background to develop the whole player, from technical fundamentals and athletic movement to tactical awareness and game-ready skills.

Hope to see you on court soon!
Pura vida,
Sara
