A Lifelong Practice
What I love most about dance is the connection it creates, both with the music and with other people. I’m drawn to the feeling of listening and responding to the rhythm and to the person I’m dancing with. There’s something special about finding a shared groove while still bringing your own expression and personality to the dance.
Dance has been part of my life since I was little. My Nona taught Colombian folkloric dances to women, and she would bring me along to her classes. I grew up surrounded by the rhythms and traditions of bambuco, cumbia, joropo, sanjuanero, and other Colombian folk dances, watching her bring people together through music and movement. Those early experiences shaped the way I understand dance today, not simply as a series of steps, but as something shared, expressive, and deeply connected to music, family, and community.
Today, I teach salsa, salsa caleña, and merengue, while continuing to explore other styles including tango, ballet, hip hop, dancehall, and K-pop. Each one brings something new to the way I understand rhythm, movement, and expression, keeping me curious and always learning.
